Prior to joining Munros, John van Kooten spent all of his professional life working for Kempen & Co N.V. He joined Kempen in 1987 and was initially employed as a sales/trader in the stock broking division. Thereafter, John moved to the Research Department and worked as a specialist in small company research. In 1998 and until January 2006, John moved to Kempen Capital Management (UK) Ltd, where he principally covered Europe’s smaller company markets with a particular focus on MicoCaps.

In his leisure time, John’s activities centre upon the countryside with shooting and fishing high on his list of priorities. With the recent expansion of the company he has been able to include the Rockies as a part of his fishing agenda and has a particular liking for the Green River in Utah which he would recommend to any serious trout fisher. Additionally, John is known to play a mean game of golf on the many courses surrounding Edinburgh.
