After studying at the Hochschule St. Gallen in Switzerland and at the European University in Antwerp, Belgium. Allaart Horst was awarded an MBA. His business career began with the Dutch investment bank, Pierson, Heldring & Pierson in 1987 as a project finance manager before moving to Pierson Capital Management which later merged into MeesPierson Capital Management. During his time at MeesPierson he was instrumental in launching a number of quoted investment funds. He moved to Kempen Capital Management in 1998, based in Amsterdam, and assumed responsibility for inter alia European smaller company products.

Allaart is married and lives with his wife, son and the family dog in the old harbour town of Muiden, close to Amsterdam. Business permitting, he is a keen yachtsman, a single handicap golfer and a decent squash player.

Allaart and his family are keen travellers, particularly to Africa to explore the African bush and to South America, with the Amazon jungle being a particular favourite. He and his family recently completed a 4x4 trip through Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
